Cross River Gorilla

Name: Cross river Gorilla,

Scientific name: Gorilla gorilla diehli,

Conservation Status: Critically endangered, population decreasing

Kingdom: Animalia

The cross river gorilla is a subspecies of western gorilla. There are only about 200 to 300 of these gorillas left in the wild! The main reasons for endangerment of the Cross river Gorillas are poaching, habitat destruction, and a loss of genetic diversity through inbreeding.

Gorillas play an important role in the tropical rainforest in which they live in. They help disperse seeds throughout the forest and create places where seedlings can grow and replenish the forest.
